The World Press Institute (WPI) proudly welcomes a new cohort of ten journalists from across the globe to its 59th annual journalism fellowship program. Hailing from Brazil, Bulgaria, Finland, India, Italy, Kosovo, Nigeria, Peru, South Africa, and Ukraine, these journalists represent the future of media and bring with them a diverse range of perspectives and experiences.
From September 6 to November 9, 2024, the fellows will travel across the United States to deepen their understanding of the free press, explore cutting-edge media innovations, and immerse themselves in America’s diverse social fabric and intricate political landscape.
The fellowship begins in Minneapolis-St. Paul at the University of St. Thomas. Here, in the heart of the Midwest, they will experience the local culture from the urban settings to the serene beauty of Grand Marais in the north and the robust agricultural life in southern Minnesota and Iowa.
As the weeks unfold, the fellows will traverse the nation, engaging with a network of seasoned journalists, policy experts, and influential leaders in political, business, and community spheres. Their itinerary includes iconic American cities like New York City, Washington D.C., Miami, Phoenix, San Francisco, and Chicago, each ofering unique insights and opportunities for professional growth. The 2024 program is poised to tackle some of the most pressing issues of our times: the intricacies of the 2024 U.S. Elections, the dynamic intersection of AI & Journalism, and pioneering new business models in the rapidly evolving digital media landscape.
